Vesta.ds VST Brand Tankless Water Heaters recall: Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning Hazard and Risk of Serious Injury and Death
Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning Hazard and Risk of Serious Injury and Death

The hazard: Carbon monoxide poisoning hazard
This product can produce carbon monoxide where it should not. A working CO alarm is the only reliable warning there is.
What the notice says: The exhaust duct can crack, allowing gases to escape inside of the home, posing a carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning hazard that can result in death or serious injury.
Why it matters: The product can release carbon monoxide, a gas with no colour, smell or taste. People who are asleep or intoxicated can die from it before anyone notices anything is wrong.
Symptoms and when to call a doctor
The CDC describes carbon monoxide poisoning as headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, chest pain and confusion — easily mistaken for flu, but without a fever. If you suspect it, get everyone outside into fresh air first, then call 911. Tell the crew that CO is suspected. A key clue is several people, or the pets, feeling ill at the same time, and feeling better once they leave the building.
This page is general information, not medical advice. If you feel unwell, a clinician who can see you is the only person able to judge your case.

What to do about Carbon monoxide
Vesta.ds — This product can produce carbon monoxide where it should not. A working CO alarm is the only reliable warning there is.
- Stop using the product indoors, in a garage, in a tent or in any partly enclosed space — an open door or window is not ventilation.
- Fit a working carbon monoxide alarm on every sleeping level and test it; it is a few dollars and it is the only warning you will get.
- Do not use a generator, grill or fuel-burning heater inside the home under any circumstances.
- Follow the remedy on this page and keep the unit out of use until it is done.
How the remedy works
CPSC recalls specify one of three remedies, and which one you get is not negotiable — but how smoothly it goes often is.
- A refund means the purchase price back, sometimes prorated by age for durable goods. Ask how they calculated it if the figure looks low.
- A repair kit is shipped free and is designed to be fitted at home; if you cannot fit it, ask whether they will arrange installation.
- A replacement is usually the current model, not the recalled one. Confirm the replacement is not itself under recall.
- Several recalls now ask you to destroy the item and send a photo as proof. Register the claim before you do that, never after.
Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled water heater and contact VESTA.DS to have a certified technician install the free repair. Consumers who must continue using the water heater while awaiting repair should have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes.
Company contact: VESTA.DS toll-free at 888-505-5525 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email [email protected] or online at www.recallrtr.com/condensingwaterheater or at https://www.vestahws.com and click on "Recall" under the "Documents/Support" tab at the top of the page for more information.
