The hazard: Electric shock hazard

An electrocution risk prompted this notice, and it is one that rises sharply wherever the product is used near water.

What the notice says: The recalled pressure washers lack an integral ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI) and, because the power cord is short, it may encourage use of an extension cord, posing serious risks of injury or death from shock and electrocution hazards.

Why it matters: The product can expose live parts, lose its earth connection or let current reach a surface a user touches. The risk is highest in a bathroom, a kitchen or outdoors, where someone is likely to be wet or standing on damp ground.

Symptoms and when to call a doctor

Do not touch someone who is still in contact with a live source — cut the power at the breaker first. Call 911 for any shock that caused unconsciousness, chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, burns, numbness or muscle pain. Even a shock that felt minor is worth a same-day check if it crossed the chest, because heart rhythm problems can appear a little later.

What to do about Shock

Sugift — An electrocution risk prompted this notice, and it is one that rises sharply wherever the product is used near water.

  1. Unplug the product, or switch off its circuit at the breaker if it is hard-wired.
  2. Follow the remedy on this page and keep the model and serial numbers to hand.
  3. Do not use it outdoors, in a bathroom or anywhere damp while waiting for the remedy.
  4. Do not attempt a repair yourself unless the notice specifically describes a user-fitted kit.

If the claim stalls

Most recall claims are paid without argument. The ones that stall usually stall for a reason you can fix.

  • Check you used the recall channel rather than ordinary customer support — the two queues rarely talk to each other.
  • If the company is unresponsive or has stopped trading, report it to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov, and try the retailer in parallel.
  • Paid by card? A chargeback for goods that are unfit for sale is a legitimate fallback once the company has had a fair chance.
  • Send the photos they asked for in the format they asked for. A missing date code is the single commonest reason a claim sits unprocessed.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should stop using the recalled pressure washers immediately and contact SUGIFT for a full refund. Consumers will be asked to destroy the pressure washer by cutting the power cord in half (the product should be completely turned off and unplugged from power outlet) and send a photo of the destroyed pressure washer to [email protected]. Consumers should then dispose of the destroyed recalled product.

Company contact: SUGIFT by email at [email protected].
