What to do about Product safety

A consumer product hazard prompted this recall, and the remedy — refund, repair or replacement — is funded by the company, not by you.

  1. Stop using the product and move it somewhere a child or pet cannot reach it.
  2. Follow the remedy the notice specifies, and register the claim before you destroy anything.
  3. If the product already hurt someone, file a report at SaferProducts.gov.
  4. Check the model number and date code against the identifiers on this page, and photograph them.

If the claim stalls

Most recall claims are paid without argument. The ones that stall usually stall for a reason you can fix.

  • Check you used the recall channel rather than ordinary customer support — the two queues rarely talk to each other.
  • Give it ten working days, then chase in writing and quote your claim reference.
  • If the company is unresponsive or has stopped trading, report it to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov, and try the retailer in parallel.
  • Paid by card? A chargeback for goods that are unfit for sale is a legitimate fallback once the company has had a fair chance.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should take the recalled toys away from children, stop using them immediately and contact The Orb Factory for a refund. Consumers will be asked to verify the code and lot number of the toy, place the toy in a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal the bag securely with tape, and submit a photo of the product in the bag to [email protected]. If the toy has been ruptured or pierced, or the sand has escaped the toy, the Orb Factory has directed consumers to put on a mask and gloves and use damp cloths to pick up any sand that has leaked out; put the toy, cloths, mask and gloves in a heavy-duty plastic bag, then place this bag into a second bag (double-bagging) that is to be sealed with tape. Consumers should then dispose of the bag in accordance with local and/or state regulations.

Company contact: The Orb Factory at 800-741-0089 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at [email protected], or online at www.orbtoys.com and click "RECALL INFORMATION" at the bottom of the page for more information.
