Nimood Adult Portable Bed Rails recall: The recalled bed rails violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed

The hazard: High-powered magnet hazard
This recall concerns small, strong magnets that can detach. Teenagers are at risk as well as toddlers, because magnets get used to mimic tongue and lip piercings.
What the notice says: The recalled bed rails violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails, because users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, posing a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. The bed rails do not meet structural stability or retention strap requirements, posing a fall hazard. Furthermore, the bed rails' push pins and push pin holes are incorrectly sized, posing a laceration hazard. In addition, the bed rails do not bear the required hazard warning labels.
Why it matters: Loose high-powered magnets are dangerous when more than one is swallowed. They attract each other through the walls of the intestine and pinch the tissue trapped between them, an injury that usually needs surgery.
Symptoms and when to call a doctor
If you think a child has swallowed magnets — even if they seem entirely well — go to an emergency department and say magnets are involved. Early symptoms are indistinguishable from a stomach bug: stomach pain, vomiting, poor appetite. A single magnet may pass on its own; two or more rarely do, and the team needs to know how many are unaccounted for.

What to do about Magnets
This recall concerns small, strong magnets that can detach. Teenagers are at risk as well as toddlers, because magnets get used to mimic tongue and lip piercings.
- Put the product out of reach and count the magnets against the number the instructions say it should have.
- Follow the remedy described on this page rather than keeping the item with the magnets glued back in.
- Check under furniture and along skirting boards — stray magnets travel further than you would expect.
- If any are unaccounted for and a child could have reached them, go to an emergency department and tell them magnets may have been swallowed.
How the remedy works
CPSC recalls specify one of three remedies, and which one you get is not negotiable — but how smoothly it goes often is.
- A refund means the purchase price back, sometimes prorated by age for durable goods. Ask how they calculated it if the figure looks low.
- A replacement is usually the current model, not the recalled one. Confirm the replacement is not itself under recall.
- Several recalls now ask you to destroy the item and send a photo as proof. Register the claim before you do that, never after.
- Return shipping is the company’s cost. If you are asked to pay it, push back.
Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should stop using the recalled bed rails immediately and contact Nimood US for a full refund. Consumers will be asked to destroy the bed rail by cutting the black fabric mesh bag off the rail and the black safety strap in half, write "RECALLED" on a piece of paper, take a photo of this alongside the disassembled bed rail and send a photo of the marked bed rail to [email protected]. Consumers should then dispose of the recalled product.
Company contact: Nimood US by email at [email protected], or online at https://nimood.com/pages/product-recalls or Nimood.com and click "Recall" at the top of the page for more information.
