The hazard: Child-resistant packaging failure

The product itself is as intended; the packaging is what failed. It does not meet the child-resistant standard the law requires for these contents.

What the notice says: The lighters violate the mandatory safety standard for multipurpose lighters because they do not have the required child-resistant mechanisms posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. In addition, the lighters failed to meet the pre-market lighter submission requirement needed to demonstrate that the lighters feature child-resistant mechanisms and ensuring their safety and compliance with U.S. regulations.

Why it matters: The packaging does not meet the child-resistant standard the Poison Prevention Packaging Act requires for this type of product. A young child can open it, and the contents are harmful if swallowed.

Symptoms and when to call a doctor

If a child has swallowed any of the contents, call Poison Control on 1-800-222-1222 straight away — before searching online, and before trying to make them sick. Have the container with you so you can read the ingredients and strength. Call 911 instead if the child is drowsy, having a seizure, struggling to breathe or unconscious.

What to do about Packaging

The product itself is as intended; the packaging is what failed. It does not meet the child-resistant standard the law requires for these contents.

  1. Move the product somewhere a child genuinely cannot reach — a high, locked cupboard rather than a high shelf.
  2. Save the Poison Control number, 1-800-222-1222, into your phone now rather than looking for it in an emergency.
  3. Follow the remedy on this page; most of these recalls are refunded or re-packaged free.
  4. Check whether you have other packs from the same lot in a bathroom cabinet or a garage.

Claiming your refund, repair or replacement

The recalling company decides the remedy and funds it. You should never pay for a recall repair or for return shipping.

  • Use the company contact on this page first. Most firms run a dedicated recall page with a claim form that is far quicker than their main support line.
  • Have the model number, the date code and your photos ready. Many companies issue store credit by default — ask for cash or a card reversal if you would rather have it.
  • No receipt? Say so. Recall refunds are routinely paid without proof of purchase, because the hazard is what triggers the obligation.
  • If you bought it from a retailer rather than the brand, try both. Target, Walmart and Amazon often refund recalled goods from the order history.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should stop using the recalled lighters immediately and contact Jobon Official Store for a full refund. Consumers will be asked to write "RECALLED" in permanent marker on the lighter, submerge it in water in a bowl and send a photo of the marked and submerged lighter to [email protected]. Consumers should then dispose of the recalled product in accordance with state and local waste disposal procedures.

Company contact: Jobon Official Store by email at [email protected].
