The hazard: Strangulation, entrapment or suffocation hazard

Strangulation and suffocation risks are what this notice addresses. Supervision is not a workable substitute for the remedy, because these incidents happen in silence and in minutes.

What the notice says: The recalled baby loungers violate the mandatory safety standard for Infant Sleep Products. The sides are too low to contain an infant and the enclosed openings at the foot of the loungers are wider than allowed, posing serious risks of fall and entrapment hazards to infants. In addition, the baby loungers do not have a stand, posing a fall hazard if used on elevated surfaces. These violations create an unsafe sleeping environment and can cause death or serious injury to infants.

Why it matters: A cord, gap, strap or soft surface on this product can trap a child or restrict their breathing. These incidents are silent: there is no noise to bring an adult in from the next room.

Symptoms and when to call a doctor

If a child is found trapped or unresponsive, free them if you safely can, call 911, and start CPR if they are not breathing. Even after an apparently full recovery, a child who lost consciousness or had their airway blocked needs to be assessed the same day, because swelling and lung injury can develop afterwards.

What to do about Strangulation

Strangulation and suffocation risks are what this notice addresses. Supervision is not a workable substitute for the remedy, because these incidents happen in silence and in minutes.

  1. Stop using the product immediately and move it out of the room where the child sleeps or plays.
  2. Tell every other carer: grandparents, childminders, nurseries. Recalled sleep products most often resurface at a second home.
  3. Claim the remedy on this page, photographing the model and date code first — the claim form will ask for both.
  4. For sleep products, put the baby down on a firm, flat surface with nothing else in it — a crib, bassinet or play yard meeting current federal standards.

If the claim stalls

Most recall claims are paid without argument. The ones that stall usually stall for a reason you can fix.

  • Check you used the recall channel rather than ordinary customer support — the two queues rarely talk to each other.
  • Give it ten working days, then chase in writing and quote your claim reference.
  • If the company is unresponsive or has stopped trading, report it to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov, and try the retailer in parallel.
  • Paid by card? A chargeback for goods that are unfit for sale is a legitimate fallback once the company has had a fair chance.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled baby loungers and contact Winkids for a full refund. Consumers should remove the foam and pads from the baby lounger's cover and cut the cover, foam and pad in half. Consumers should email photos of the destroyed pieces to [email protected] to obtain a full refund.

Company contact: Winkids by email at [email protected].
