What is wrong

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2025 XTZ690 motorcycles. The turn signal lights may fail to operate when activated. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The risk

Turn signals that do not function properly may fail to indicate the rider's intention to change direction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Why lighting defects matter: Lamps that are dim, aimed wrongly or not working reduce what the driver can see and how visible the vehicle is to others.

The remedy

Owners are advised not to ride their motorycle until the remedy is complete. Yamaha will replace the meter assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 26, 2026. Owners may contact Yamaha's customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990190. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning June 26, 2026.

About the lighting

Federal standards set how bright, how aimed and how visible each lamp must be; many lighting recalls are compliance campaigns.

What to do

  1. The manufacturer has told owners not to drive these vehicles until the remedy is done. Ask the dealer about towing rather than driving in.
  2. Enter your VIN in NHTSA’s lookup (below) to confirm that your vehicle is included and that the repair has not already been done.
  3. Call a dealer for the brand and book the repair. Quote NHTSA campaign 26V-367 and the manufacturer’s number 990190.
  4. Walk around the vehicle with the lights on and check each lamp, including brake lamps and turn signals.
  5. Safety recall repairs are carried out free of charge by the manufacturer’s dealers. If you already paid for this repair yourself, ask the manufacturer about reimbursement and keep your receipt.

Check by VIN

A campaign rarely covers every vehicle of a model year. Enter your 17-character VIN to find the recall campaigns filed for your make, model and model year. The VIN is on the driver’s side of the dashboard (visible through the windshield), on the door-jamb label, and on your registration and insurance documents.

Is a recall still open on your vehicle? Only NHTSA’s official VIN check can say whether a campaign applies to your exact vehicle and whether the repair has already been done.

Your VIN is decoded with NHTSA’s public vPIC service to identify the make, model and year. It is not stored and is not added to any page address.
