The hazard: Product safety hazard

A consumer product hazard prompted this recall, and the remedy — refund, repair or replacement — is funded by the company, not by you.

What the notice says: Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.

Why it matters: The CPSC published this recall because the product can injure someone. The hazard statement above describes how.

What to do about Product safety

Conair Expands — A consumer product hazard prompted this recall, and the remedy — refund, repair or replacement — is funded by the company, not by you.

  1. Stop using the product and move it somewhere a child or pet cannot reach it.
  2. Do not resell, donate or pass it on — reselling a recalled product is illegal in the United States.
  3. Follow the remedy the notice specifies, and register the claim before you destroy anything.
  4. If the product already hurt someone, file a report at SaferProducts.gov.

If the claim stalls

Most recall claims are paid without argument. The ones that stall usually stall for a reason you can fix.

  • Check you used the recall channel rather than ordinary customer support — the two queues rarely talk to each other.
  • Send the photos they asked for in the format they asked for. A missing date code is the single commonest reason a claim sits unprocessed.
  • Give it ten working days, then chase in writing and quote your claim reference.
  • If the company is unresponsive or has stopped trading, report it to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov, and try the retailer in parallel.

Remedy named in the notice: Consumers should stop using the recalled grill brushes immediately and contact Conair for a full refund or a credit for use at Cuisinart.com for a full refund plus 20% of the cash refund amount. Consumers will be asked to discard the recalled grill brushes.

Company contact: Conair toll-free at 888-520-1304 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at https://www.recallrtr.com/grillbrushes or www.cuisinart.com and click on “Product Recalls” at the bottom of the page for more information.
