BMW recall: The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss

Recall published 4 months ago

The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.

The hazard: Brake system defect

A braking defect prompted this notice. The remedy is free and the appointment is usually short; the risk of leaving it is not proportionate to the inconvenience.

What the notice says: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

Why it matters: A fault in the braking system can lengthen stopping distances or cause a loss of braking. Unlike most vehicle faults, this one gives very little warning before it matters.

What to do about Brakes

BMW of — A braking defect prompted this notice. The remedy is free and the appointment is usually short; the risk of leaving it is not proportionate to the inconvenience.

  1. Book this repair promptly, and in the meantime leave a larger gap than usual to the vehicle in front.
  2. Check your own VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before you do anything else. A campaign covers a build range, not every car of that model year, and the VIN lookup is the only thing that confirms yours is included.
  3. Call any franchised dealer for the brand, give them the campaign number from this page, and ask them to confirm parts are in stock before you book — part supply, not labour, is what delays a fresh recall.
  4. Tell the dealer if you have noticed a soft or sinking pedal, a longer stop, a warning light or a new noise — those symptoms affect how urgently they fit you in.

Getting the repair booked and paid for

The money side of a vehicle recall is simple. The scheduling side is where people lose weeks.

  • Ask whether the parts are physically in stock before you accept a date. A booking without parts is a wasted morning.
  • Where the manufacturer has issued an interim measure — park outside, do not drive, a software limiter — follow it until the full remedy is done.
  • Reimbursement claims for earlier out-of-pocket repairs go to the manufacturer, not the dealer, and need the original itemised invoice.
  • If you get nowhere, file at nhtsa.gov. Complaints tied to an open campaign number carry weight.

Remedy named in the notice: The Integrated brake system will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 21, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Rolls-Royce customer service at 1-877-877-3735. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 21, 2026. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V739 or 24V104 will need to have the new remedy completed.
